There are 2 businesses associated with mold problems – mold testing, also known as a mold assessment, and mold remediation, also known as abatement, cleaning or removal. Although some companies do both, it is considered to be a conflict of interest and is now illegal to do so in New York State and a few others, with more states surely to follow.
While mold remediation requires crews of workers, trucks, tools, chemicals, high insurance and other costly overhead, mold testing can be done by one person with one piece of equipment and virtually no overhead.
